Among the first performance installation artists in the former Soviet Union, Valera and Natasha Cherkashin have been exploring European, Asian, and American cultures since 1988 and have had more than a hundred exhibitions worldwide. They have been featured in forty television programs in the United States, Germany, and Italy, and in publications including the Washington Post, Art+Auction, and Artforum. Their work is in permanent collections throughout the United States, including those of the Art Institute of Chicago; the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Pennsylvania; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; the New York Public Library, New York; and the Library of Congress and the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.
