Erika Diettes is a visual artist and has a master’s degree in anthropology. Her artwork,
linked to the very onset of photography, explores memory, pain, and death from a
multidisciplinary perspective. Relicarios [Reliquaries] consists of a set of capsules that
preserves the objects and the memories that mourners treasure from their loved ones
who were murdered or disappeared amidst the armed conflict in Colombia. Her work has
been exhibited in Museo de Antioquia, Medellín, Colombia (2016), and was published in
the two-volume monograph Memento Mori: Testament to Life (Staunton, VA: George F.
Thompson Publishing, 2016) it was among the best photography books of 2015, according to Elizabeth Avedon. In 2017, Diettes was awarded the Tim Hetherington Fellowship by the Tim Hetherington Trust and the World Press Photo Foundation.
