Born in Kirov (Vyatka in the former Soviet Union) in 1971, Aleksey Myakishev has been a professional photojournalist since 1991. After moving to Moscow in 1999, he became a freelance photographer, contributing to multiple periodicals in Russia and abroad. He has had solo exhibitions in Russia, Germany, France, Austria, Italy, Canada, and the Czech Republic. His photographs were shortlisted for a 2013 Sony World Photography Award, Professional Competition, in the Lifestyle category, and have been exhibited in Somerset House, London. In 2015, Myakishev became an ambassador for the French photography firm Bergger, which published his monograph Kolodozero.
