Ilana Bar earned her B.A. in photography in 2010 from Senac University Center, São Paulo, Brazil, where she currently lives and works. She was brought up near the city of São Paulo in a rural area of Atibaia. Her work often focuses on her own family, including her twin uncles and brother, who were born with Down syndrome. In Transparências de lar [Transparencies of Home], Bar photographs her family’s daily life in their multigenerational home. In 2010, she was awarded first place at the Eighth International Festival of Photo Image in Atibaia for Tão Down.

Bar’s work has been shown in several group shows and fairs in São Paulo and Atibaia. In 2017, Transparências de lar was exhibited in FotoFest’s International Discoveries VI, Houston, Texas; Goaphoto, Saligao, India; and El Centro de Fotografía, Montevideo, Uruguay. The series was also awarded a 2016–2017 Pierre Verger National Photography Prize in Salvador, Brazil. She continues to study at the University of São Paulo.
