Daniel Coburn was born in San Bernardino, California. He photographs his loved ones to illuminate important issues that are often suppressed in traditional family albums. Coburn’s prints are held in permanent collections at major institutions including the Museum of Contemporary Photography, Chicago, Illinois, and the University of New Mexico Art Museum, Albuquerque. His photographs have been exhibited at museums and galleries across the United States and internationally. His first monograph, The Hereditary Estate, was published by Kehrer Verlag, Heidelberg, Germany in 2015. Coburn is a recipient of many prestigious awards including a 2017 Guggenheim Fellowship. He currently serves as an assistant professor of photography at the University of Kansas, Lawrence.
