This image was made during Herni Cartier-Bresson’s trip to India in early 1966, when Indira Gandhi was president of the Indian National Congress (having risen to power following the death of her father, Nehru, in 1964). The Magnum Photos site shows a variant titled INDIA. Rajasthan. Jaipur. 1966. The Congress’ session. Indira GANDHI, president of the Congress. Portrait of NEHRU in the background. This image is a vintage press print. The photograph is printed on Agfa paper and is in very good condition apart from a crease on the top right corner and some small losses of emulsion along the edges in places. The verso bears an HCB (“H. Cartier-Bresson, magnum”) wet stamp in blue ink, an “abc press” stamp, and other notations in pencil by an unknown hand.
