Nancy Newberry is an internationally known Texas artist whose work explores the interplay between individuality and social affiliation. She has received many honors, including the Descubrimientos PHotoESPAÑA Prize, Madrid, Spain (2013); the Kolga Tbilisi Photo Award for Best Documentary Photo (2015); and the PhotoVisa Award, Krasnodar, Russia (2014). Her work has been shown throughout the United States, Europe, and China, including in the Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize Exhibition, National Portrait Gallery, London (2012); Discoveries of the Meeting Place FotoFest, Houston (2012); and Nowhere Near Here: New Photographic Work by Texas Artists FotoFest, Houston (2011).
Newberry’s photographs are in the permanent collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; Centro de Arte Alcobendas, Madrid, Spain; and Villa Noailles, Hyères, France. In her constant pursuit of new work, she can be found chasing tumbleweeds in Texas between Dallas and Marfa.
