He won the National Geographic Picks Global Photo Contest in 1998. His first series, The Yellow River, documented the effects of modernization along the second-longest river in Asia, which is also known as Huang He; the series won the 2014 Discovery Award at Les Rencontres d’Arles, France, and was shortlisted for a 2013 Sony World Photography Award.
